Doe Deer Hat

ITEMS NEEDED:
Crochet Hooks in the following SIZES:
US G/6 4.00MM
US H/8 5.00MM
US I/9 5.50MM
Worsted Weight #4 Yarn (I used Caron Simply Soft) in the following colors:
Brown –
for Hat, Back of Ears & Trim on Eyes (or color you prefer – (still referred to as Brown in the pattern)
Bone – for Snout and outer eye part (or color you prefer – (still referred to as Bone in the pattern)
Pink – for inner ear parts (or color you prefer – (still referred to as Pink in the pattern)
White – for white of the eyes (or color you prefer – (still referred to as White in the pattern)
Black – for Pupils of eyes, Nose and Eyelash line (or color you prefer – (still referred to as Black in the pattern)
Small amount of Stuffing for Nose/Snout
Yarn Needle for sewing components onto hat.
PATTERN WRITTEN IN US ENGLISH CROCHET TERMINOLOGY
HAT:
US I/9 5.50MM HOOK
2 strands of BROWN Held Together
CH3 & CH2 are NOT Counted as a stitch throughout pattern
RND 1: ch3, 11dc in third ch from hook join with sl st to top of first dc. (11dc)
RND 2: ch2, 2dc in same st, 2dc in each st around, join with sl st to top of first dc. (22dc)
RND 3: ch2, 2dc in same st, 1dc in next st, *2dc in next st, 1dc in next st, * (repeat between the *s around) join with sl st to top of first dc. (33dc)
RND 4: ch2, 2dc in same st, 1dc in next 2 sts, *2dc in next st, 1dc in next 2 sts, * (repeat between the *s around) join with sl st to top of first dc. (44dc)
RND 5: ch2, 2dc in same st, 1dc in next 3 sts, *2dc in next st, 1dc in next 3 sts, * (repeat between the *s around) join with sl st to top of first dc. (55dc)
RNDS 6 thru 12: ch2, 1dc in same st, 1dc in each st around, join with sl st to top of first dc. (55dc) (Tie Off if you are MAKING EAR FLAPS ----  OTHERWISE Continue on to RND 28)

FOR EAR FLAPS,  (USE BROWN 2 strands held together)
With Hat UPSIDE Down, COUNT and MARK 6th STITCH to left of CENTER Join Seam {do NOT count the CH2 as a stitch}, COUNT and MARK 18th STITCH to right of CENTER Join Seam {do NOT count CH2 as a stitch}
RND 13: Join in with a sl st in the marked 6th stitch to left of rear center with hat upside down and right side out. Ch2, dc in same st, dc in each of next 11 sts.  Turn  (12 dc)
RND 14: Ch2, dc in same st, dc2tog, dc in each of next 6 sts, dc2tog, dc in last st.  Turn (10dc)
RND 15: Ch2, dc in same st, dc2tog, dc in each of next 4 sts, dc2tog, dc in last st.  Turn (8dc)
RND 16: Ch2, dc in same st, dc2tog, dc in each of next 2 sts, dc2tog, dc in last st.  Turn (6dc)
RND 17: Ch2, dc in same st, dc2tog, dc2tog, dc in last st.  Turn (4dc)
RND 18: Ch2, dc2tog (in same st and next st), dc2tog in last 2 sts.  Turn (2dc)
RND 19: Ch2, dc2tog (in same st and next st). Tie Off (1 dc)
For Second Ear Flap
RND 21: Join in with a sl st in the marked 18th stitch to left of rear center with hat upside down and right side out. Ch2, dc in same st, dc in each of next 11 sts.  Turn (12 dc)
RND 22: Ch2, dc in same st, dc2tog, dc in each of next 6 sts, dc2tog, dc in last st.  Turn (10dc)
RND 23: Ch2, dc in same st, dc2tog, dc in each of next 4 sts, dc2tog, dc in last st.  Turn (8dc)
RND 24: Ch2, dc in same st, dc2tog, dc in each of next 2 sts, dc2tog, dc in last st.  Turn (6dc)
RND 25: Ch2, dc in same st, dc2tog, dc2tog, dc in last st.  Turn (4dc)
RND 26: Ch2, dc2tog (in same st and next st), dc2tog in last 2 sts.  Turn (2dc)
RND 27: Ch2, dc2tog (in same st and next st). Tie Off (1 dc)

RND 28: (Join in with a sl st in the stitch you joined RND 12 together at)ch1, 1sc in same st, 1sc in each st around, do 4sc at points of ear flaps to keep them from bunching up, join with sl st to top of first sc.

RIGHT EYE:
US G/6 4.00MM HOOK
Using Black
RND 1: Ch 3 - 10 dc in third ch from hook
Fasten in Brown at sl st of last dc to first dc
RND 2: Ch 1, sc & hdc in same st, hdc & dc in next st, 2dc in next 3 sts, dc & hdc in next st, hdc & sc in next st. tie off (Brown does not go all the way around Black –look at photos)
RND 3: Join White with sl st in the 2nd dc st of previous row, ch 1, sc & hdc in same st , 2dc in next 4sts, hdc & sc in next st. tie off  (White does not go all the way to ends of Brown –look at photos)

Join Bone in at any st with sl st.
RND 4: Ch2, 2dc in same st, 2dc in next st,* 1 dc in next 2 sts, 2dc in next st * (repeat between the *s around) then join with sl st.

LEFT EYE:
US G/6 4.00MM HOOK
Using Black
RND 1: Ch 3 - 10 dc in third ch from hook
Fasten in Brown at sl st of last dc to first dc
RND 2: Ch 1, sc & hdc in same st, hdc & dc in next st, 2dc in next 3 sts, dc & hdc in next st, hdc & sc in next st. tie off (Brown does not go all the way around Black –look at photos)
RND 3: Join White with sl st in the 2nd hdc st of previous row, ch 1, sc & hdc in same st , 2dc in next 4sts, hdc & sc in next st. tie off (White does not go all the way to ends of Brown –look at photos)
Join Bone in at any st with sl st.
RND 4: Ch2, 2dc in same st, 2dc in next st,* 1 dc in next 2 sts, 2dc in next st * (repeat between the *s around) then join with sl st.

Look at the pics and embroider with black along the upper white area to make eyelashes on both eyes.

INNER EARS:  Make 2

Using Pink ch 6
ROW 1: Sc in second ch from hook and each st, across, turn (5sc)
ROW 2: Ch 1 & sc in same st, 2 sc in next st, sc in next st, 2sc in next st, sc in last st turn (7 sc)
ROW 3: Ch 1 & sc in same st, sc in next 2sts, 2sc in next sc, sc in rest of sts turn (8 sc)
ROW 4: Ch 1 & sc in same st, sc in each st across, turn (8sc)
ROW 5: Ch 1 & sc in same st, sc2tog, sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog, sc in last st turn (6 sts)
ROW 6: Ch 1 & sc in same st, sc2tog, sc2tog, sc in last st, turn (4sts)
ROW 7: Ch 1 &sc in same st, sc2tog, sc in last st, turn (3sts)
ROW 8: Ch 1 sc2tog (in same st and next st) sc in last st, turn (2sts)
ROW 9: Ch 1 sc2tog (1sts) tie off

OUTER  EARS:  Make 2
US H/8 5.00MM HOOK
Using Brown ch 6
ROW 1: Sc in second ch from hook and each st, across, turn (5sc)
ROW 2: Ch 1 & sc in same st, 2 sc in next st, sc in next st, 2sc in next st, sc in last st turn (7 sc)
ROW 3: Ch 1 & sc in same st, sc in next 2sts, 2sc in next sc, sc in rest of sts turn (8 sc)
ROW 4: Ch 1 & sc in same st, sc in each st across, turn (8sc)
ROW 5: Ch 1 & sc in same st, sc2tog, sc in next 2 sts, sc2tog, sc in last st turn (6 sts)
ROW 6: Ch 1 & sc in same st, sc2tog, sc2tog, sc in last st, turn (4sts)
ROW 7: Ch 1 &sc in same st, sc2tog, sc in last st, turn (3sts)
ROW 8: Ch 1 sc2tog (in same st and next st) sc in last st, turn (2sts)
ROW 9: Ch 1 sc2tog (1sts) tie off

EAR ASSEMBLY:
Using Brown
Single crochet one pink and one brown layer together for each ear – add 4sc at top of ears and 3 at lower corners to help prevent bunching.
(***NOTE*** you can add a small triangle of Plastic canvas [or even cut a small triangle from the lid or side of a margarine or similar bowl] in between the layers to stiffen the ears.

NOSE & SNOUT:
US G/6 4.00MM HOOK
Using Black
RND 1: Ch 3, 8dc in 3rd ch from hook
Fasten in Bone at sl st of last dc to first dc
RND 2: Ch 2, 2dc in same st, 2dc in next 3 sts, dc in next 4 sts, join with sl st to top of first dc.
RND 3: Ch 2, 2dc in same st, 1dc in next st, * 2dc in next st, 1 dc in next st, * (repeat between the *s around) join with sl st to top of first dc.
RND 4: Ch 2, 2dc in same st, 1dc in next 2 sts, * 2dc in next st, 1 dc in next 2sts, * (repeat between the *s around) join with sl st to top of first dc, fasten off.
BE Sure to Stuff Snout before final stitches when attaching.

ATTACH EYES, EARS & NOSE by using the picture for placement, using a whip stitch.
